Trick Roping with the Dolphins

Roping calf on Catalina Island. Trick roping with Lewis Events.

A gorgeous fall day on the docks at Newport Harbor in Southern California. The trick ropes, microphones, cables, hats, boots, roping calf . . . . and wetsuits were loaded onto the boat. Next, we hopped aboard, sailed past the Balboa Pavillion, out of the harbor past the jetty, and were off to Avalon Bay on Catalina Island. Along the way, dolphins and seagulls accompanied us on our 26-mile journey. The dolphins seemed like they just wanted to have fun as they jumped in and out of the ship’s wake. After docking in Avalon, we boarded a speedboat that quickly whisked us to a private cove on the island. There is no road to our destination cove, so the people, food, supplies, and equipment could only be transported to the location by boat. Remote indeed!

We arrived at a beautiful, secluded cove, rolled up our sleeves, and got to work. The sound system was set up and tested followed by our tent and sleeping bags. Yes, our location was so remote, that we stayed in a tent right on the beach . . . . about ten feet from the water.

Lewis Event’s assignment was to provide a weekend of entertainment for the members and guests of a private organization, including trick roping, virtual calf roping, DJ and MC, and line dancing.

The tables are set and both Christy and Jay warm up before the guests arrive.

The guests did arrive and after a mouth-watering Western meal, they danced and roped for hours. Traditional and contemporary Western favorites were played along with some pop tunes to mix things up a bit. We entertained guests for two evening events and provided atmosphere entertainment during the daylight hours.

The beachfront event location was spectacular and the guests were a ton of fun. Our weekend soon came to an end, the bags and equipment were loaded and we made the journey back to the mainland.

Lewis Events will travel almost anywhere to make your dreams come to life. Even if it means we transport our equipment on a boat and stay in a tent. Contact us anytime to chat about how we can make your next adventure a huge success.

Trick Roping High in the Clouds

Lewis Events has performed trick roping and western performing in a wide variety of unique locations and circumstances. Sometimes half the fun is the journey to the venue. This job was no exception. The car was parked, the ropes and whips loaded and the ski gondola was boarded.

From the base of the Park City Canyons Village, the lift began the steep ascent up the mountain. The gondola passed high above the trees, over the ski trails with spectacular views the entire ride! At the top of the mountain, the destination of the beautiful Red Pine Lodge was reached. Assembled at the lodge was a gathering of young up-and-coming business owners brought together to exchange ideas, network, and have a great time.

The guests had a blast learning the basics of trick roping and throwing a lariat in the crisp mountain air of the Wasatch mountains.

Trickroping in No Man’s Land

Going back in time just a bit, Lewis Events was invited to participate in the Sabine Freestate Festival held in Florien, Louisiana. The annual festival highlights the unique period in history from 1806 until 1822 when a portion of the state was designated as “No Man’s Land” or the “Neutral Strip”. The region was a disputed area between Spanish Texas and the United States’ newly acquired Louisiana Purchase.  Local officers of Spain and the United States agreed to leave the Neutral Ground temporarily outside the jurisdiction of either country.

Over a period of two days, we performed multiple shows that included trick roping, whip-cracking stunts, storytelling, and virtual calf roping.

The festival offered a variety of activities and entertainment choices including a treasure hunt, BBQ contest, carnival, comedy show, folk music jam, parade, dance concert, vendor and food booths, a horse-drawn carriage, and the famous made-on-site sugar cane syrup. The mule did not seem to mind walking in circles all day long, powering the sugarcane-crushing machine. The syrup was then boiled over a wood fire until it reached the syrup stage.

We made a variety of great friends over the three days at the festival and enjoyed our wonderful experience in Florien.

Trick Roping with the Cowboys at the Ft. Worth Stockyards

Lewis Events trick roping at Ft Worth Stockyrds

Traveled to Dallas/Ft. Worth this fall. One of our destinations was the fascinating historic Ft. Worth Stockyards. It began with the stock parade as the cowboys drove a herd of longhorns down the main street. Behind the Live Stock Exchange building, a cool experience was the “Ft. Worth Herd” where the cowboys explain the history of the cattle drive and show off the long horns up close. We took the rare opportunity to visit with the cowboys, trick roping and roping the virtual calf. We remained long after the crowds had departed, telling stories and sharing roping tricks with the cowboys.

And finally all together with the cowboys.

Turning City Slickers into Wild West Heroes

Lewis Events trick ropers in Kamas, UT

Not too long ago, in a town not too far away, busloads of folks descended on Kamas, Utah for a real live western experience. They came from all over this great country of ours to the High Star Ranch, as a reward for a year of hard work and dedication to their outfit. Lewis Events brought the old west alive.

Kamas Western Crowd

After a trick roping howdy welcome, guests got settled in socializing and relaxing. Then the camp cook served a plateful of mighty fine delectibles which kept guests busy for a spell. Then it was time to learn how to handle the Wild West.

There were plenty of lessons to be learned by the city slickers. We taught guests the fine art of trick roping, how to lasso a wild virtual steer, the excitement of discovering gold, creating intricate designs on leather bracelets, and all they needed to survive the next cattle drive.

Bellies were full, cups were empty and the sun began to set in the west. We now have a whole crop of new wranglers who are ready to tame the Wild West.

Chico Catering did a fabulous job BBQing a western feast and the local Elks lodge was an ideal location for the celebration.  Guests were entertained by a trick roping, whip cracking, gun spinning, and square dancing showcase all kept moving by the cowboy DJ/MC.  Non-stop activities included panning for gold, virtual cow milking, corn hole tournament, calf & trick roping lessons, virtual cow branding, corn husk doll making, nerf shooting gallery, water slides, and inflatable games.

Not far from Chico at this same time, the Dixie fire was in its early stages and the plume of smoke could be seen from our site.  Nearby, the fire fighting teams were staging their equipment and our hotel parking lot was filled with Cal Fire trucks.  Thanks, first responders!
